How Youth Strength & Conditioning Can Benefit Your Child

Strong adults starts with strong kids and it’s true…the earlier you start strength and conditioning with your child, the better their overall health and wellbeing. So what exactly does Youth Strength and Conditioning involve and how will it help your child?

The majority of parents enrol their child in physical activities from a very young age. This includes soccer, netball, cricket, little athletics, gymnastics, dance, martial arts, swimming, the list goes on and on. However the problem is that while the lead instructor or coach is specialised in their field, many of them don’t have the complete knowledge of bio-mechanics. So although your child will be taught skills and applications, the very foundations of correct posture, alignment and balance can all to often be completely overlooked.

Yes they will go through simple stretches and depending on the acitivity, they will also be taught balance and coordination but this is at a very basic level and unless properly taught and monitored, it could not only lead to sub-par or average performance, but more importantly it can lead to bad long-term habits and even injury.

Those children who are looking to advance into competitions will soon realise the importance of strength training in improving their performance level and professional athletes have long incorporated strength and conditioning as part of their training.

However starting with strength and conditioning will improve your child’s strength, agility, balance, coordination, flexibility, fitness and endurance levels.

At Athletic Instititute, Wangara, our fully equipped facility and  degree qualified coaches provides specialised classes for children aged 10-17 years at any fitness level. We train young athletes as well as children who have never done a single sporting acitivity in their life. All in an environment where your child can gain optimal performance and success either at school phys-ed or their chosen sport.

In short, youth strength and conditioning underpins every physical activity your child will ever do: from walking, running and skipping to jumping, dancing and swimming.
