Training at altitudes of 2,500 meters (8,202ft) is deemed most beneficial to performance gains while maintaining the ability to add subsequent training load.

Evidence suggests that the Live High / Train Low method enhances performance to a greater extent than training methods using the Live High / Train High method. The most effective solution is to sleep at altitude, and then train at sea level.

Sleeping at an altitude of 1800m for 19 nights with the Sleep Cloud effectively increases VO(max) and Hbmass and improves overall physical performance more than sea-level training.

An altitude (sleep high and train low) program is recommended for long-distance endurance athletes.

How Does The Sleep Tent Work?

During sleep in an altitude environment, the aim is to slightly reduce oxygen levels to stimulate your body to work harder, prompting a more efficient production of blood cells. which in turn enhances oxygen transport in the bloodstream. As a result, athletes experience enhanced endurance, recovery, and overall performance when they return to lower altitudes for training or competition.

Using a sleep high/train low protocol at an altitude of 1800m increased Hbmass by 3.1% after 2 weeks, and 3.0% after 3 weeks of exposure.

How Long Will It Take To Work

  • The first 30-40 hours are crucial to the success of your altitude program. We strongly suggest increasing the altitude slowly and keeping it low for this first week. This will give you enough time to acclimatise. If you increase the altitude too soon, you may have trouble sleeping. The longer you sleep at altitude, the better the gains.  
  • We anticipate your sleeping heart rate to increase while sleeping anywhere from 5 to 15%  (if you have a resting heart rate of 50 expect a heart rate response from around 52 Bpm to 57.5 Bpm.
