Corey Green – Owner // Strength & Conditioning Coach

With over 15 years of experience in the industry & 10 plus years as a business owner, coach Corey is a world-class practitioner, industry disrupter, and renowned in the field of Strength & Conditioning.   His diverse involvement in various aspects of coaching in multi-disciplinary areas makes him highly regarded and respected among his peers.

Corey is the Head Strength & Conditioning coach at the West Perth Football Club. After taking on the role in 2018, Corey and the team have built arguably the most professional and performance-driven strength and conditioning programs in the WAFL system. In the 5-years at the helm West Perth has achieved 5-consecutive league finals campaigns, 2 x league Grandfinals, 1 x league Premiership (2022), 2 x Reserves Grandfinals and 1 x Reserves Premiership (2019).   

Corey is also the founder of Perth’s leading Strength and Conditioning facility: Athletic Institute. AI trains between 200 – 300 youth athletes from a wide range of sporting fields. He also works closely with professional athletes competing at the highest levels in their sport, including the AFL, Triathlon, Golf & many more. Corey was a senior intern at the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) where he implemented programs for elite athletic institutions like the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and the Canadian Olympic Centre.

Corey’s personal training goals are diverse.  Having competed in sports like Body Building, Powerlifting, and now Triathlon, He truly understands what it takes to train for performance across many disciplines. Corey is now a 4 x Ironman athlete, with the eventual aim to qualify for world championships in Kona Hawaii. Corey has both the knowledge and experience, so when it comes to programming and coaching he eloquently understands the classic blend of the art and science of working with elite athletes.

Corey never stops looking for ways to improve his abilities and is currently undertaking a diploma in Sports Performance Nutrition.

Chris Ormsby – Exercise Physiologist

Chris has been a leading Strength and Conditioning Coach for over a decade. He is also a qualified Exercise Rehabilitation Consultant and an Accredited Clinical Exercise Physiologist.

Chris is highly dedicated in the field of the development of strength, power, conditioning, and overall performance.

His drive and passion lie in using these skills to change the lives of individuals suffering from acute and/or chronic ailments, illnesses, or conditions.

Chris’ depth and breadth of knowledge is a powerful and intrinsic element of his coaching style. His command of the intricacies of the human body and his ability to translate that to bring out athletic excellence is inspiring.

Chris has been a State Bodybuilder competitor for many years in various federations. This has enabled Chris to develop his experience in the ‘artistry’ and ‘science’ of devising progressive, resistance training plans to elicit true greatness on the competition stage.

Nhat Vu – Exercise Physiologist

Coach Nhat is a strong advocate for evidence-based research and uses this knowledge to devise an exceptional exercise and sports-specific tailored program.  He specialises in fundamental movement skills with an emphasis on improving performance both on and off the field, court, or sporting ground.

He is a pivotal asset in Athletic Institute’s Youth Athletic Development Program, displaying an untiring level of commitment required for such a demanding role.

Nhat has completed his Sports & Exercise Science degree from the University of Western Australia and is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP). He has a wealth of knowledge in human movement, strength and conditioning, and exercise physiology.

His attention to detail and steadfast approach allows him to deliver a holistic service to members. He is passionate about helping people perform better, improve their fitness and become more resilient.

Nhat is determined to impart the importance of functional movement and mobility as a pre-cursor to strength performance. He effortlessly combines the competencies of sports science and exercises physiology to prescribe solutions that underpins his success with clients.

Anton Phan – Exercise Scientist

Anton’s academic journey commenced with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science & Health from the University of Western Australia, where he developed a strong foundation in anatomy, biomechanics, and sports science. Following his academic pursuits, Anton delved into the practical realm of exercise science, gaining invaluable insights and refining his skills through hands-on experiences. Starting as a placement student here at Al in 2021, Anton then completed a professional internship and has remained on board with us since.

He is passionate about instilling proper movement patterns and biomechanics early on, emphasizing the importance of a solid foundation for a lifetime of physical health and a resilient body.

He strives to make fitness an integral part of each person’s developmental journey whether they be old or young, athletes or just the regular person trying to improve their quality of life.

His approach is grounded in a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, allowing him to tailor exercise programs that are both effective and safe. Whether designing programs to increase performance on the field, just starting at the gym or just looking to improve general fitness and well-being, he is dedicated in providing the optimal solution in reaching your goals.

Megan Kauffman – Strength & Conditioning Coach

Megan spent six years in the United States completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees while also competing as a collegiate tennis athlete. She has an undergraduate degree in exercise science from Winthrop University and a Master’s degree in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology from the University of Florida.

During her time in the States, Megan obtained invaluable experience as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for numerous college sports including track & field, swimming, volleyball, lacrosse, and basketball. 

Upon her return, she played AFLW footy and within 12 months was drafted to the Fremantle Dockers in the AFLW. Megan’s experience as a professional female athlete means she brings something very special to the AI team and can share her knowledge of training at the highest level with you.

Megan is extremely passionate about creating a positive training environment for athletes to not only grow and improve but also feel empowered to be their best. She takes a particular interest in developing the athlete as a whole working to instill fundamental movement patterns and positive training habits. 

Megan is dedicated to bettering herself through a continuous drive to learn and improve her own training. Through this dedication, she hopes to be a positive role model for athletes, especially young female athletes.

Matt brings nearly 10 years of private practice sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapy experience to Athletic Institute. Holding the title of Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist as awarded by the Australian Physiotherapy Association, Matt is passionate about combining the benefits of manual therapy with high quality exercise based rehab. 

With clinical experience with the Fremantle Dockers, Perth Lynx, Canberra Capitals, Victorian Bushrangers, Warwick Senators and the WA Football commission, Matt has a vast array of sporting experience which he utilises to support each and every one of his clients.

Krystal McCluskey – Relaxation, Therapeutic & Sports Specific Massage Therapist

Krystal came to us from Melbourne and bought with her over 10 years of experience in the health, fitness, professional sport, and education industry.

Krystal’s experience in the fitness industry ranges from corporate health, coaching sport-specific athletes, educating and training children and youth, programming for specific populations clients, and the general population. Krystal is also a massage therapist, having worked for Essendon Football Club for 10 years and with high-profile and professional NRL, soccer, and cricket teams in Melbourne. Over the past 2-years she has expanded her skill set around youth mental health as this is an area, she believes, is important for our young people as they move through the challenges of life and sport.

Fabricio Forchino – Sports Nutritionist

MSc. Sports Nutrition

Fabricio is a highly qualified and experienced Sports Nutritionist specialising in exercise and sports nutrition. With over 18 years of experience in the field, he has worked with high-performance athletes, coaches, and teams across several sports and different countries.

Fabricio has completed extensive training in Dietetics and earned his ISAK Level 3 accreditation in Argentina. He has also completed the IOC Diploma in Sports Nutrition and earned a Distinction for his research project on 3D body scanning technology during his MSc in Sports Nutrition from the University of Stirling (UK). Currently, Fabricio is undertaking a Ph.D. program at Curtin University in Australia to further develop his research profile.

At Aspetar, one of the world’s leading sports medicine institutions, Fabricio was responsible for developing and implementing applied sports nutrition for various national teams, including Qatar Football, Handball, and Volleyball, as well as Athletics and Aspire Academy. He also organized and ran the first ISAK certification course in the Gulf region and developed many nutrition workshops for athletes, coaches, and sport science personnel.

GeishNaruhiro“Geish” Hori – Strength & Conditioning Coach

Ph.D. Exercise, Biomedical, and Health Sciences

With 20+ years of experience in S&C for high-performance athletes Geish has competed in the sport of weightlifting for 10+ years (WA State Champion in 2010 and 2011, 85 kg Men). He has a passion for utilizing weightlifting exercises to enhance the performance of other sports.

Prior to joining AI, Geish was the Head of Sports Science at Swan Districts Football Club in 2022. There, he oversaw the physical preparation of the athletes playing in WAFL and planned and implemented speed, agility, plyometrics, and energy system conditioning.

From 2005 to 2021, Geish was an S&C Coach at the Western Australian Institute of Sport where he planned and implemented S&C programs for international, national, and developmental levels of athletes in a variety of Olympic, Paralympic, and Commonwealth Games sports (athletics, cycling, diving, gymnastics, men’s & women’s hockey, men’s & women’s water polo, netball, rowing, and swimming).

At Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, six athletes he coached during 2018-2021 competed in Athletics, four athletes he coached during 2017-2020 were promoted to the National Training Centre and competed in Rowing, and one athlete he coached during 2017-2019 was promoted to the National Training Centre and competed in Diving.

Put all those knowledge and experiences together, Geish has an excellent understanding of biomechanics in weightlifting, strength, power, and speed training, as well as step-by-step teaching progression of all exercises and drills you will need
